DCC Vs Quorn

Quorn, Leics 30th July 2000

THE TAIL WAGS, LUCKILY

DCC, rather incredibly, won the toss. The first toss Paul has won in 11 attempts!

Weather: Very nice indeed, sunny with a small breeze.

Quorn is a super little fixture and one of my personal favourites. Talk about setting yourself up for a fall..... Notable game as this was the first game I've ever seen where the scorer has done the business on a lap top PC!

We had a pretty good batting line up, but the bowling was a little down due to the absence of Streets and Gaunt (A). Paul therefore had little hesitation in putting us in, despite Jamie's protests. Jamie looked a little the worse for wear shall we say, and nearly fell asleep in the dressing room. Birdy turned up on his R1, very nice indeed, admiring glances from the locals all round. Dean and Rob opened and Rob couldn't have bought a run for a million quid, and eventually got off the mark with a streaky edge after about 8 overs, only to fall to what can only be described as appalling shot selection. It was a merciful release as the opening stand of 44 had got 4 off Rob. Crossy also went cheaply, and then Dean chipped up a caught and bowled, gone for 35. Ben enjoyed a brief promotion to 5 due to Kiwi's alcoholic stupor, but between them 2 only 8 came forth. 80-6 was not ideal to say the least on a flat track. Enter, not for the first time, Ant. A fifty stand with Paul later, he went for 36 and then in came, after a brief appearance by Smudge, Dave Spencer. 36 no to his name. There were some glorious strokes from Ant and Dave, and with these 2 , Dean and Paul, the score flattered a rather average performance elsewhere.

Smudge and Benno opened up and a great spell it was. At the end of 8 overs each the score was 30-5, Benno taking 4-17 and Smudge 1-13. It was pretty much all over by then, as Quorn had a relatively young side out, so the bit part bowlers came on, after Ant and Dave Spencer had a few each. Jamie, Rob, Paul and Ben bowled 9-0-45-2 between them, and it was all over at 94 all out. The rumour was that the privately owned ground is up for sale to a housing developer, so I only hope we can go back next year.
