OF PETE GARBETT AND HAMSTRINGSDorchester lost the toss and were put into field.
Weather Not really one or the other
Another old haunt hastily resurrected, but still Scott didnt get there til way gone 3pm, blaming not only Terrys directions but a more general lack of sense of direction.
Before his arrival, Paul had, as is the custom, lost the toss, and been told to field. Spectator and part time matchwinner Adam Street made up the 11 prior to Scott's arrival. Pete Garbett, a batsman of some repute, came out of retirement for the game, and never looked out of place in the slightest. Despite the early wicket for Andy Gaunt, we soon found out why the decision was made, as OPs number 3 bat proceeded to thraipse every bowler around seemingly all parts of North Notts for fun. By the time he departed for 108, to a super boundary catch by Steve Gaunt, he had dominated Dean, smote Smudge and battered the bowling in general. A super innings, with not one false shot to give anyone any hope. The other end was a bit of a different sort as wickets tumbled fairly regularly, Dave Spencer turning in a fine display of spin bowling for a big four-fer, and eventually OP reached 168 all out, a fair total, but I bet they were glad of the number 3.
Steve Gaunt and Rob opened up after some severe cakeage in the clubhouse, and both went quickly, Steve to a pearler of a catch behind the wicket 2 balls after a dolly was dropped by the same keeper, and Rob to a full toss that could and should have gone anywhere. Unfortunately it went bowlers hand, to bat, firmly back to bowlers hand without ever seeing terra firma, and the long walk commenced, with Rob nursing a slight hamstring pull. (No excuses!! - Ed). Pete Garbett started in fine fashion and simply carried on, driving and pulling his way to a super 50. To quote the man himself "I should come out of retirement more often." Paul got going and then got out, as did Birdy, but he left due to a severe hamstring rip and was all but helped off. Ouch. Pete and Deano finished it off, and in the end a fairly comfortable victory was had.
Perhaps we should warm up next week, rather than just keep physiotherapists in business.
