A new fixture for the club and what a fixture. The ground is in the middle of Lord King's (former Chairman of BA) estate and rather picturesque it looks too.
In a similar vain to Monty,
New recruit and mate of Benno, Rod Springer, opened with Steve and appeared to adopt a similar batting style to Benno and was caught and bowled for a duck trying something quite extravagant early on. Steve was on the wrong end of a quality leg cutter and was caught behind for 7 while Richard Kelly, on club debut, was bowled first ball.
This brought the Cross family together and a period of stability ensued before Dave was out for 14. I went out to join Ian and the score progressed somewhat before Ian was LBW for 38. Gavin 'I communicate with my batting partner through ESP' was stumped for 3 before Andy Kelley made it a family double getting a golden. Benno came and went, caught at cow corner for 2 and Andy Gaunt was bowled for 5. This brought Mick Stewardson to the crease who normally bats like a rabbit with myxomatosis (harsh but fair- ed), but alas, a super 8 not out helped add 28 for the last wicket and we managed to push the score onto 133 for 9. I finished on 39 not out although it did take me over 20 overs.
Tea was taken on the outfield and very nice it was too.
In reply, Lord King's XI kept the score moving along at a similar snail's pace to us with Andy Gaunt and Benno taking early wickets. We didn't really start to make an impact, though, until Rod came on to bowl his tweakers late on. Whilst he was taking 4 wickets from the top end, Richard Kelley and I took two apiece from the bottom end and we managed to get them all out for 127 in quite an exciting finish. Andy Kelly made a notable contribution in the field taking three catches.
A top quality pub was found afterwards and Mick, as a result of his new found batting prowess, treated us all to chips. Fantastic.
