DCC V Kinoulton CC

Kinoulton, Notts, 24th August 2003

A beautiful day at Kinoulton, on a dry dusty and at times unplayable track.

DCC included rob for the first time this year and we batted first. It all went a bit pear shaped early on as 2 quick wickets fell, including Nick the run machine for a duck. Enter Hibbo and Paul, who batted like only they can. Paul "nudged and nurdled" (copyright DCC website 1847) for a 70 ish I seem to to remember and Hibbo played a "leave, leave, leave, boundary" type innings that went to the exact opposite near the end. He clubbed a fifty and then just carried on in typical Hibbo style and recorded, to tumultuous applause it has to be said, the long awaited DCC debut ton. There wasn't a more popular innings in Notts that day. Finally, he succumbed and it was left to the tail to wag, enter Rob for his traditional red codpiece cameo, all slog and no finesse, for 20 odd, and Smudge hit a lusty blow or 2 at the end.

Super tea, it must be said, and Kinoulton never really looked up for it. They played their way through all 40 overs though, and at the end, it was a bit painful as the village limpet stuck to his task in a limpet like stylee. There was plenty of bowling of all descriptions and some pretty decent catching too.

Lovely evening for a victory beer or 2.
