DCC Vs KEGWORTH CC

Kegworth, Leics,  18th June 2000

Kegworth won the toss and batted.

Weather : Hot. Damn hot. etc

Kegworth is always a good fixture, on a nice little ground, and the added advantage of being near the Cap and Stocking, second only to the Falkland Arms as England's finest pub. This year's was no exception, runs, wickets, Lancaster bombers and high drama all put in an appearance.

DCC pretty much at full bowling strength but missing Crossy and Rob of the regular batsmen. Kegworth put on 82 for the first wicket, but this was despite Alec's figures of 6-5-2-0. Awesome, he's like the wine he sells. Better with age. Kegworth's Aussie/Sri Lankan pro was trying to hit Scott onto runway 2 niner at the 20 over stage, but should really have concentrated on stroking, rather than trying to hit the leather off, the ball. However, this didn't stop Scott going 3 overs for 15. Wickets fell regularly, most notably one for Jamie! Miracles do happen etc. Adam bowled another super little spell of 3-26, showing some excellent form which should get him a regular place next year. KCC got to 158 all out. Chase it, boys.

And chase we did. Just not very well. The top 7 batsmen got 53 between them and at one stage we were 90-7. It was looking all over. Then came Alec (again) and Ant (again), who took the weight of the club on their shoulders and mooed and slashed (Alec) and stroked and caressed (Ant) to within an ace of victory. 90-7 became 144-7, in just 46 balls, and DCC looked odds on. Then the unthinkable. Alec fell 2 short of his first 50 in a donkey's age and the game was afoot. Andy Gaunt lasted 3 overs and then came Adam, as we got to 157-9. Breaths were held. Butterflies everywhere. Not least Adam, I should think. The Aussie/Sri Lankan pro came on. Ant watched 4 dots and then spanked him for 2, to cheers from the DCC crowd. Awesome again. Ant ended up with 37 no and Adam a stunning 0 no, off no balls, but returned a hero!

Super stuff.
