DCC Vs Hucknall CC

Hucknall, Notts - 23rd July 2000

An Explosive Start

DCC won the toss, 2 on the trot! Living memory was sorely tested as to the last time we did that.

Weather - Overcast

Approaching a full strength side this week, DCC only had Andy Gaunt and Rob missing from a probable first XI. The start was explosive to say the least, as the new cherry in the bowlers hand only bounced once on the turf in anger before being lost forever in a field, as Jamie lashed the first ball for a straight six. New ball please. The tone was set then and DCC reached 196-7 in 40 overs with 21 boundaries in the first 4 batsmen's 123 runs. Steve Gaunt was unluckily run out for 3 as all the batsmen got in, although none reached 50, Crossy closest at 44. A sporting 10 bowlers used by Hucknall, we tried to do the same.

Hucknalls innings started badly at 42-6 in 13 overs, but we began to suspect an upside down batting order as numbers 7,9 and 10 got 136 between them! Not before a masterful 7-1-23-5 from Alec Street again showed why he is the Guv'nor. After the first 13 overs went for 42, the strokes started appearing, with Benno being uncharacteristically expensive, and no bowler getting off lightly. A tense finish just went our way, with wickets at the crucial times the main factor.

We look forward to similar next year, maybe we'll provide the match ball.....
