Dorchester won the toss and elected to bat.
Weather - sunny and hot.
DCC traveled to Hilton CC just the other side of Derby, to an old stomping ground not visited for a few years, with 10 men. History was made early on in the day, when a convoy of 7 cars successfully met up, set out and got there all to
gether and without getting split up or lost on the way. A rare occurrence indeed.
Continued poor calling by Rob put DCC in on a low flat slow pitch. A front footer if ever there was one. After no volunteers at all for the coveted openers slots, Rob deputised Jamie and Dean, who put a few on the board before both falling a few shy of 50. Crossy played a few stylish strokes before hearing the death rattle, and Rob made hard work of 21, looking like he couldnt time an egg, let alone a cover drive. GB had his first duck for the mighty chester, to be joined by Rod. Minus 5 to you both. The tail wagged convincingly, with Benno leading the way with a very impressive display of clubbing for 43, and some rolling back of the years by Alec. Hes still got it, it just takes him longer to find it these days. Scottie flourished (no, really) a quick 12 not out at the end, and the scores on the doors of 212-7 looked a good one.
Its not very often Alec gets a wicket first ball, but on a momentous day for the Street family, he did just that. The second was harder to come by and Hilton were starting to play the ball around a bit and go for sharp singles. Rob was thinking of how best to get the team around for a quick chat when the second wicket fell and Benno steamed in before Rob could get a word in. Steve then proceeded to spend fully 3 minutes at full volume and with a few Anglo Saxon inflections in there, telling us in no uncertain terms exactly how the game was still alive and how we still had to work. Awesome indeed. I fully expected him to say "My names Steve Bennett and I drink blackcurrant Tango!" at the end!
Robs plan to use all 9 bowlers came to fruition shortly after this with the introduction of 14 year old Adam Street, son of Alec. By simply keeping it up to the bat and straight (you listening, Deano?) the hero Adam took 6-33 including a hat trick and 5 in 9 balls. The roof nearly came off with the hat trick and well deserved too. After bowling very nicely in the nets, all this was only a matter of time. Alec was heard to mutter something along the lines of "Well done, Son" as Adam completely upstaged everyone. An awesome display.
Only one downside though, minus 5 on economy. Hilton capitulated under this onslaught to 118 all out and victory was DCCs.
I hear Alec is planning to spend a week in the nets.Special thanks to Kieren from Hilton CC who helped us out in the field, before taking a nasty blow on the knee. Thanks for getting the jug in Adam, sorry Alec.
