DCC V Epperstone

Epperstone, Notts 18th August 2002

A short benched DCC were even shorter when it transpired that Alec and Adam had done a bit of stock car driving on the way and would be late due to police involvement (thankfully the wily old and young foxes were uninjured). Paula was still steadfastly refusing to present Jamie with a child of any description, so mobile in hand, Jamie tossed up, and we had a bat.

And bat we did, Paul and Steve quiet early doors but opening up for 43 and 91 respectively, both just short of deserved milestones. Paul was especially unlucky as he ended up at Steve’s end, shaking his hand, while at the end he’d come from, bails were on the floor, and had to go. The blame was the subject of great debate at tea…… At 144-0 starting the 27th over great things were expected, but we seemed to get stuck in a "not enough time to build and innings" cameo rush after Paul and Steve went, and Rob top scored of the next 8 batsmen with 14. Codpieces all round. Birdy was well caught at the third attempt, Adam treated himself to another golden (unlucky, mate) we got to 191 all out. No Hibbo this year, so tea enough for all, and the father son bowling partnership was in devastating form as we took the field. Alec a 4fer (including some really top seamimg rosners, as I believe Crossy calls them) and Adam 2fer, as wickets fell regularly. Good catching (step forward Messrs Smith and Gaunt S with 2 each) and some tidy bowling after the openers, Andy Gaunt off half pace looked as dangerous as he has all year, and we got them all out by 7 pm for 104. In the Cross Keys for 7.30, jobs a good ‘un, happy days. A highly pleasing victory.

DCC 191 all out in 39.3 overs (Taylor43, Gaunt S 91)
Epperstone 104 all out (Alec Street 4-15)
