DCC Vs Allenton

Goosedale, Nottingham 8th September 2002

DCC filled this late fixture with Allenton from Derbyshire, in a game played in varying conditions (bright sunshine to almost pitch black) at Goosedale.

Jamie lost the toss but got put in, which was nice, as there was batting everywhere, and some of them made hay. Steve Gaunt got a snorter when on 12 and was bowled, but this brought Dean in, who played very straight and nicely, but did farm some average bowling it must be said. Paul nudged and nurdled for a trademark 30, while Rob came and went quickly to finish off a highly average season with the bat. Birdy slogged lustily for a quick 14 and Dean showed them the makers name until he got 76 (which ended up as 80, bizarrely) and he gave gully a bit of catching practice. Enter Jamie, who carried on last week’s antics with a very quick 42 no (38 in boundaries) as well as providing a quality comedy moment, when getting one right where it hurts most. Hilarity all round, except inside the Lees jockstrap. Crossy got out cheaply to liven up the batting award race and we ended up on 202-6 off 40, and ate our home made teas (and in Jamie’s case, everyone elses home made teas) with a satisfied glow.

Allenton struggled to get the ball off the square and it ended up a comfortable victory, to be fair. Prize moments included the Alvin Stardust lookalike who clubbed 2 in succession to Paul in the deep, just straight of cow in an inspired piece of field placing and bowling (it says here). The first, very difficult one, went down, the second was swallowed with ease. Birdy nutted one of Robs pacier ones but never flinched, and Alec did a superb "Sydney Harbour Bridge" near the end. Those wily twins Cross and Taylor (trademark spell to finish the tail) tidied up with combined figures of 6-2-10-6, Adam and Alec being the unlucky bowlers to not get a wicket. 80 all out in 33 overs says it all, very gloomy at the end. Dean didn’t even get a bowl.

DCC 202-6 in 40 overs (Blake 80, Lees 42*)
Allenton 80 all out in 33 overs (Cross 3-8, Taylor 3-2)
