Flash game -- Dice Wars.
Dice Wars is a strategy game, where you must defeat the
other players and gain control of the map. You play
against up to eight computer opponents, on a variety of
maps.
You play as blue and the territories controlled by you
are marked in blue. The strength of each territory is
shown by a stack of dice, the bigger the stack the better.
You can have a maximum of eight dice on any territory,
giving you a maximum attack strength of forty eight (8*
the dice face value of 6). Although you could also
achieve a total of just eight (8* the dice face value of
1).
Each player takes
a turn attacking and when a player ends his turn, he is
awarded an extra dice for each territory he controls, but
only for the largest group of adjacent territories. So if
a player has a group of five territories, a group of
three territories and two isolated territories, he will
ony receive five extra dice.
The extra dice are distributed randomly across all of a
players territories.
It is not possible to move dice from one territory to
another, to bolster your defences, the only way to move
dice is to attack.
I hope I have explained that well enough, as there are no
instructions with the game and initially the game appears
to move so fast, that it is hard to tell what is
happening, but after a few games, all becomes clear.
The game graphics are nice and simple, so that you can
see the state of play easily. As the computer performs
each attack, the territories involved are highlighted and
the status panel at the bottom of the screen shows who is
attacking who and how many extra dice they have been
awarded.
Sound effects are limited to a dull thunk if an attack is
successful and a high beep if it fails.
When playing, it's best to avoid having isolated single
territories, they contribute no extra dice and can
receive some of the extra dice generated by your main
group, so I found the best strategy is to weaken these
areas so that they are attacked by other players, you can
then concentrate all your power on your main group of
territories.
Towards the end of the game a stalemate type situation
can occur, particularly at defensive bottle necks on the
map, but you can eventually wear down a weaker enemy by
continually attacking.
I greatly enjoyed playing Dice Wars, it is quite
challenging. Personally I prefer to play against two or
three computer players, as it is too easy to win against
large numbers of players.
If you like strategy games, you will have an absorbing
few hours playing Dice Wars. Because of the lack of a
help file, I would suggest copying and pasting my game
description to a text file for reference.
