Freeware Menu >> File splitters

Note: File splitters will be of interest to those people who don't have a CD writer, or like me prefer the more reliable (and cheaper) floppy disc, after all why waste an easily scratched CD, when you only want to swap a file of 3 or 4 MB.
The batch and sfx files created by some file splitters can cause a virus alert with some antivirus programs, because of the double file extension, ie file.bat.exe, the only solution for this problem, is to create standard split files and enclose the splitter program with them. ( You may wish to notify the antivirus company so they can correct the problem.)

Splitter & Merger by Heator A. Maldonado Melgar.

An excellent file splitter, it can split and join files using the very simple program interface, or it can create a self extracting file for joining.

The program can compress the file on the fly during splitting, even as it writes directly to a floppy disc, it will also extract directly from a floppy, no more copying to the desktop before joining, the floppy does not have to be empty to be used.
The program gives the option to delete the split parts after the file is joined and also the option of creating a copy of the program itself for the files recipient.

Splitter & Merger v5.5

Splitter Light by Martin Stoeckli.

This is the file/folder splitter to use if you regularly work with folders and files. You want to save your data to a floppy disk, but the file or folder is too large? With Splitter you can split large files and folders to parts of 1.44MB or other sizes.

Because Splitter is extremely small (55KB), you can deliver it easily with the first disk for unsplitting. I would recommend enclosing Splitters readme file on any discs you swap, so that the recipient knows how to operate it.

Splitter can also create a batch file, which allows the split files to be rejoined without the program, simply by double clicking the batch file.
You can watch how the splitting is going, with a neat progress bar effect, that moves around the program window.

Fsplit.

Fsplit is a very simple file splitter, you can choose either the number of parts you require the file to be split into, a user defined size for the parts, or standard floppy sized parts.
When you click Split, the file is split into parts and the parts are placed in the same folder as the original file.
A batch file called Unsplit is also created, just double click it, to join the parts back together.

Fsplit worked very well when I tested it and the test files were split and joined with no problems. A basic, streamlined and fast splitter with no frills.

ZSplitter v 2.0.

ZSplitter is a small and easy to use file splitter, just select a file to be split, choose a size for the parts and split.
A copy of ZSplitter is attached to the first split part (indicated by the ZSplitter icon) and the original split file can be recreated by simply double clicking it.
The file recipient is given the option of creating a new copy of ZSplitter for their own use.

Freeware -- Download size 22k -- Comp spec, no indication, but ok on 98 and XP.

ZSplitter

SplitJoin v1.3.3.

SplitJoin has a few more features than ZSplitter, supporting drag and drop for both splitting and joining, plus the interface displays the number of parts that will be created, using the specified part size.
There is also an excellent help file and the source code is included in the folder, for any interested Delphi programmers.
SplitJoin must be copied to the floppy disc with the split parts, for joining by the recipient, but the program file is a tiny 30k and when splitting the file you are given the option of creating a copy of SplitJoin in the same folder as the split parts.
SplitJoin also creates a Checksum file, this contains details of the original file, which are automatically compared to the recreated file, to confirm it is not corrupted.

SplitJoin isn't quite as quick, or straightforward to use as ZSplitter, but it does have some useful extra features and first time file splitters will appreciate the comprehensive help file.
