This site contains an English-Japanese two way on-line dictionary. The dictionary contains over 50,000 entries in each direction. The result of a search is generally a list of entries that match the search word - each entry contains a list of words that are translations of the search word without any detailed explanation. All the Japanese is in romaji so no special browser is required.
There is a Windows95 and later version of the dictionary that can be downloaded free ( just over 1MB ). The downloadable program also has a simple rote teaching facility.

This site acts as a front end to the Breen dictionary. There is a large range of options for searching the dictionary, both English-Japanese and Japanese-English. It supports the main dictionary together with the names, life science and legal term dictionaries. There is also a kanji look-up page on the site which allow look-up on a number of indexes from standard reference books and computer coding schemes.

Although this is a Japanese site and all the instructions are in Japanese anyone with a little knowledge of kanji will be able to make use of it. There is an English to Japanese and a Japanese to English version. The Japanese entry is in kana/kanji ( EUC ).

The dictionary on this site is just English-Japanese. It is aimed at a fairly advanced user as most of the output from a search is in japanese.
The imput is always in English and the output is in kanji ( EUC ). The dictionary itself is based on the Jim Breen's EDICT.

JEDI stands for Japanese-English Dictionary Interface and is an on-line interface to the EDICT dictionary from Jim Breen. You can search either the standard dictionary or the names dictionary. The interface can accept input in both romaji and kanji ( ensure you browser is set to Japanese EUC ). The output can be set to either romaji or kanji ( EUC ).
The EDICT dictionary itself can be downloaded as part of the JWPce program.

This dictionary is rather different from the rest. It is an ongoing project to generate a dictionary with detailed definitions and examples of use for the words. Currently there are only a few hundred words listed but people are invited to submit new, or edit existing, entries. As well as words the dictionary contains symbols and the use of Euroean letters in abreviations. The entries are all in kanji ( using Shift-JIS ) so a kanji capable browser is required.
