A representation of the Ark of the Covenant

In the Jan./Feb. 1996 issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, an article by Dr. Leen Ritmeyer entitled "The Ark of the Covenant, where it stood in Solomon's Temple" was published. This revealed the results of the latest research into the location of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem.
From an analysis of the Sakhra, the Rock over which the Dome of the Rock now stands, the negative impressions of the walls of the Holy of Holies could be traced and from this, the plan of the whole Sanctuary with its courts. A completely unforeseen outcome of this research was the discovery of the former resting place of the Ark on the Sakhra. Although this was not at all the aim of the research, it is nevertheless a wonderful confirmation that the site and the Biblical text are in perfect harmony.
This slide set follows the journeys of the Ark of the Covenant from its construction by Bezaleel in the desert of Sinai to its installation in the Holy of Holies of Solomon's Temple. A combination of interpretive drawings from Scripture and reconstruction drawings based on archaeological evidence and full color on-site photographs enable us to trace the progress of this holiest of objects through history. The accompanying caption booklet supplies detailed background material to elucidate the pictorial record.
