* * * * Star Award The Big One was introduced in what was undoubtedly the best year for new Rollercoasters in the UK, 1994. Nemesis, Shockwave and The Pepsi Max Big One were constructed, the later being thhe UK's only hyper coaster. This ride took the number of Rollercoasters in Blackpool Pleasure Beach up to a staggering 11. As has become standard with Blackpool (Valhalla excepted) theming is virtually non existent. The track is red with blue supports and at night it is lit up by a number of spotlights. After quickly reaching the top of the huge lift hill there is a steep drop down to the right. The drop itself is superb but unfortunately the rest of the ride is a bit of a let down. There are no very steep corners although the far reaching left hand corner at the far end of the ride is still very high and the banking makes you feel as though you could be ready to join the poeple down below. The coaster travels at fairly high speed however the remaining drops could do with being slightly steeper and the section of the rollercaoster after the "trim brake" is poor. Despite this the first drop is unparalled in the UK and despite the Yanks out doing us yet again with Millenium Force and co. this ride still provides quite a thrill.
