* * * * * Star Award Nemesis is the UK's only inverted rollercoaster set in Forbidden Valley at the winner of Ride Guide UK Best Theme Park award - Alton Towers. Nemesis was introduced in 1994 and gave Alton Towers world wide recognition as a top theme park. It put Alton Towers miles ahead of the competition here in the UK. The ride is themed to some sort of alien wasteland and the station itself is within a huge spider like creature. The ride is set half underground due to the height restrictions Alton Towers has to deal with. After boarding the train the floor literally falls from your feet and you proceed out of the station and start the climb of the lift hill. Once taken over the top you hear a clicking sound and you are at the mercy of gravity. After turning down to the left you swing back towards the park and enter a corkscrew then the photo section. A 270º turn takes you back under the track then up over the station where you complete an inline twist over the obscure station structure. After a right hand turn you proceed up a hill and helix down 180º and into a downward slope that leads to the highlight of the ride, the vertical loop. At the top of this loop you apparently experience 4 seconds of weightlessness however I can't say I have ever counted. The exit of the loop hurries you underground where you procedd through some corners then back underground before a corkscrew right throws you overground. You then turn left and hit the brake run at fantastic speed. The reaction from the riders every single time you slowly procedd into the station illustrates the supremicy of the ride. The passengers seem to be amazed by this masterpiece no matter how many times they ride it, I am the same after well in excess of 50 rides.
