VIOLINS 2004
History;
John Outram is a graduate from the internationally famous Newark School of Violin Making, completing this highly regarded course in 2004. His tendencies toward instrument making began during his A levels, when a solid bodied electric cello was made, itself still used regularly to this day.
During his time at the school, he has completed 5 Stradivari pattern violins, an Andrea Guarneri pattern viola and 2 Stradivari pattern cellos, one of which was made with a 5th. string. In addition to this, a solid bodied electric double bass, a fretless bass guitar and a lap steel guitar amongst others,have also been designed and constructed to meet his needs as a musician.
Repair work to date has included the restoration of two German trade violins circa approx. 1900, and a selection of electric guitars and basses, which have been variously repaired, restored, customised and recieved set up work.
As demonstrated by the listed instruemnts, a tendency towards electrification is noticable, with experimentation currently takng place into the fitting of condenser microphone elements inside cello bodies.

The 5 string cello, electric cello and basses were manufactured to fulfill musical requirements of fonzooorooo, and hence are in regular use for both recording and performance. The obvious electronic simplicity of these designs lend themselves perfectly to the huge tonal ranges of modern amplification systems and studio equipment, where on board tone controls and extensive pickup blending systems are rendered useless - therefore are not fitted! This theory is shown in its ultimate development on the Electric Double Bass, where each pickup is routed directly to the poles of a stereo jack socket, with no on-body controls or switches at all.
