Suffolk Live Music Club is an exciting new project which aims to
bring first-class live acoustic music to Suffolk, providing a stage
for both established professional artists and opportunities for
talented local acts, throughout the region.
Who's behind it
all?
The concept
was being nurtured by Bob Paterson of the EastCentralOne Agency
who recognised a gap in the market between the major venues in our
towns and the Saturday night pub gigs.
To take
the idea from concept to reality, Bob contacted Debs and Rich Burrow
of the DebsWarrenBand. Debs also hosts of the Suffolk Songwriters,
a twice monthly event which provides opportunities for original
musicians in Suffolk.
Also involved
is Ian Mantel and Julies Stokes of Debenham Entertainments Ltd.
The company's business includes, hosting the annual Music by the
Lake Festival, the Stand and Deliver music club at the Highwayman,
Coddenham, and promoting young and start up bands in the region.
Ian and Julie are also members of the sucessful covers band '56
Cadillac.
The combined
experience, in all aspects of the entertainment industry, of this
group of 5 dynamic people is the driving force behind this new venture.
What's it all about?
The SLMC will be a
'virtual' club with members benefiting from all the usual perks.
Membership will provide reduced prices at events, a monthly newsletter,
a website with all the latest information on artists and venues,
plus lots of links on other events around the county.
There will be no fixed
venue for the club, rather a selection of small to medium sized
sites from small theatres, to converted barns, established music
venues to open air events in castles and other sites, all around
Suffolk. The club aims to hold events on a regular basis with the
possibility of additional events on a larger scale to take place
during the year. Where possible the venues will be chosen to cover
as much of the area as practical to ensure that the music is accessible
to all and isn't just confined to the big towns.
An established and
well-known professional artist will provide the entertainment with
a local performer(s) as a support act. The artist and venues will
be carefully matched to ensure that the music is both appropriate
and enjoyable.
Prices for the standard
events should be below the £10 mark per ticket.
When will it start?
SLMC plans to hold
the first event in April 2004. The infrastructure will be in place
by the beginning of the year, and will be widely advertised with
information available in the local news, music press and on local
radio.
