JuJitsu....an Introduction

JuJitsu is one of the few genuinely effective and practical martial arts. It emphasizes skill over strength and does not rely on any single aspect of combat eg, kicking, like many modern styles, rather the whole spectrum of combat skills are taught, from locks and throws, to striking and ground fighting. While this may sound like a lot to learn JuJitsu is easily accessible and just a few months training will provide you with many invaluable self-defence skills.

JuJitsu is one of the oldest martial arts, dating back to the great Samurai of feudal Japan and senior grades are taught to use traditional Japanese weapons, eg. the katana ( see gallery ).

Many modern combat styles originate from Jujitsu: in the early 20th century Christian Japanese developed Aiki Jutsu from JuJitsu which later evolved into Aikido. In 1882 Jigaro Kano developed the sport version of JuJitsu, namely Judo.

Yukio Tani, one of the first people to introduce JuJitsu to this country, toured Britain taking on all comers to demonstrate the prowess of JuJitsu as a fighting art. One of his opponents was a circus strongman named "Vilrow", who was Sensei Jenkinsons Grandfather!
