ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, MINERAL.
Becky Beasely, Chloe Briggs and Lisa Castagner.
5th - 21st Dec
PV 4th Dec 7.00 til late

Presenting objects as people and table tops as thinking spaces, 'animal,
mineral, vegetable' groups three photographers who share the ability to
produce a simple photograph replete both with and without personality.
Imaging psychological space in three diverse ways the work in this show all
use the simple device of photographing an objects on, near, or under a
surface and reframing them in such a way that they can be seen as both
themselves and as some parallel symbol.

Lisa Castagner’s videos and photographs present a surreal and tense
relationship of placement and substitution, with a woman disappearing and
being replaced by a cloth and broken eggs from one shot to the next.

Becky Beasely’s work is an iconographic topology that unendingly charts and
arranges objects into a lexicon of recognisable forms and implied useage.

Chloe Briggs’s photographs herself as a thinking and subversive object,
redirecting the notion of object or subject into a vacillating yet
immobilised state.

The works in this show reference and draw on an array of mutable emotional
states that thread through the object back into the photograph through nodal
points of reference. States of mind and matter are transformed in these
works to generate a chain of associative links that challenge and evade easy
description. Instead simple presentational strategies and styles are
combined with an ambiguous and ephemeral content - the object and its
placement cease to be the real focus of the work, instead they become the
context for a network of imaginative leaps, leaks and inference.
