Day 2, 15/06/08

A few adjustments, including an "about" page and the removal of a "home" link on the home page... doh.

Now of course comes the hard work - putting my case together coherently. Needless to say I have had more than a few attempts at doing this, experience is a great teacher!!

Day 1, 14/06/08

Experienced lots of problems trying to upload the new web site each time ending in a scrambled version. In the end, I solved "compatability" issues by switching my FTP client.... phew.

Day 0, 13/06/08

Launch day and the new look and feel web site is in my humble opinion almost "road-worthy" - I hesitate to use the word complete, since it clearly is not. I have tried to learn from the last experience, creating less layers in the heirarchy, less pages and choosing select pieces to try to focus discussion. I believe, I have made some fairly robust observations in some of the extract "Cases" alone, although I clearly haven't gone into a lot of detail and not substantiated my claims thoroughly as I shall in the body of text. Early comments and recommendations are invited. Since demonstrating any methodology behind claiming that a lithic is humanly flaked is pretty much unchartered territory I would appreciate suggestions in this regard. As I would also with reference to "demonstrating" an objective conclusion in favor or against iconicity. A few people have remarked how it shouldn't be done - and for this I am grateful. However, less have proposed how it may. There are numerous examples of less rigourously identified images including the recent identification of an apparent 'mammoth' on a cave wall in Britain. It is barely recognisable as such, and yet it has been accepted, i.e. spoon-fed.

The recent publication of Mythical Moderns from Bednarik and an earlier paper in Rock Art Research are the final nails in the coffin for the short-term theory. The Chauvet caves can no longer be attributed to "modern humans" but rather Neanderthal or robust hominids. Neanderthal iconography on lithics is not well known and therefore it is worth drawing attention to the undeniable evidence from the Fontmaure site including a 'quadruped', 'bird' and 'face'. Additionally there is the Roche-Cotard 'mask' although the significance of this item is still disputed by some.

Day -2, 11/06/08

The idea at the moment is that I am just going to put together a skeleton website which I will genuinely be able to regularly build on and improve iteratively - unlike the last website which became a beast. The "Cases" are by no means complete - merely tasters for the main section which will be my hypothesis and observations with regard to modifications that may be concluded to be anthropic in origin. I plan to publish by Day 5, i.e. Friday. A little quicker than the last website which took nine months.

Day -4, 09/06/08

Here I shall write the usual blather to accompany the website and hopefully steal a few hits from somewhere or place in the process.

Return vistors may notice things have changed a little around here. No kidding, everything changes. If you liked the old one let me know why you didn't bother saying anything about it sooner... For those of you that did (five or six that I can remember) thanks for your support.

For those wondering where a link has gone, well it's gone - shit happens, get over it.

Any requests for links to a website on my Contact page needs either a very good case or a significantly large bribe. If there isn't a link already don't just assume that I've forgotten ;>)
