The development work featured in the 'Coursework' section of this website has culminated in an exhibition entitled, 'Altered Sensations.' The work in the exhibition addresses personal issues experienced by the artist that relate to her perceived strengths and vulnerabilities resulting from her having the condition of multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a relatively common neurological condition resulting in damage to the nervous system, causing every sufferer to experience it in a different way. Words alone cannot describe the invisible, unpredictable and unpleasant symptoms that can be caused by MS. 'Altered Sensations' tries to address these issues in the form of tactile, textured organic objects that visibly disrupt and investigate sensations associated with the body. The use of implied or absent bodies stimulates the development of a visual vocabulary, suggesting aspects of the self, with the evidence of the individual left behind.

These strong, 'loaded' objects are awkward and cumbersome and represent the exaggerated weight and restricted use of nerve damaged limbs. They have the possibility of being carried, worn, suspended or selectively exhibited in a gallery setting. Like pieces of site specific art, they reflect qualities that are hidden in memories and create a personal space together with the person who views or carries them.
