Study & Writing Skills page.
Many people who are studying don't feel confident in their study or writing skills. We were not all well-educated in the ways of formal writing when we were at school, or given advice about how to study. If this applies to you have a look through these sites and see if you can find one that suits you:
Academic writing: Introduction - a UH guide – lots of good information.
UH Writing page - University of Hertfordshire Integrated Learning Project.
Eats Shoots and Leaves - about the book - play the game.
The Internet Grammar of English - a UCL guide. Good plain English advice, and exercises you can do on-line to check your skills.
Guide to Spelling -
by Bradford University - Punctuation book/website – play the game?
Proofreading an essay - by Tees University.
The BUBBL Link Writing skills page - with links to all sorts of different kinds of writing.
Study skills & learning support - Support for Learning is a site for information, advice and the best resources online to support learning, careers and jobsearch. Go straight to writing skills here.
Essay Writing from Liverpool Hope's University - the GNU project is based in the Environmental and Biological Studies (EBS). It may be about geography but it's good advice.
How To Write Right - by Gerard M Blair. The focus is on engineering, but the advice is great, I think.
The US seems to have lots of sites - you might prefer one of these - but remember some things are different, particularly the spelling:
Guide to Grammer & Writing - from Capital Community College, US.
The Importance of Good Writing Skills - from Quintessential Careers, written by Randall S. Hansen, Ph.D. and Katharine Hansen. Quintessential Careers is the ultimate career, job, and college site.
Fact Monster Writing Skills - from the Fact Monster Homework Center.
