The West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy & its affects on Tamworth
This section of the site is dedicated to the press coverage in the Tamworth Herald concerning proposals to build 9000 extra homes within Tamworth.
So what is all the fuss really about?
As reported in the Herald article and based on my understanding to date, it would appear that a relatively unknown arm of the Government (the West Midlands Regional Assembly or WMRA), is formulating a plan to recommend to National Government that tens of thousands of houses are built across the West Midlands between now and 2026. Within that plan (called the West Midlands Regional Spatial Strategy or WMRSS) Tamworth is one of the towns that is given special mention. (This is the bit that appears to be of concern.) The WMRSS is going to put forward one of three options for Tamworth. These are listed below:
To build 3900 homes between 2001 and 2026
To build 4000 homes between 2001 and 2026
To build 9000 homes between 2001 and 2026
The 112 page document that details this and a whole host of other issues can be downloaded direct from the WMRSS site or by clicking here.
So is there really a threat to Tamworth?
Yes and no would have to be my answer at this moment in time.
Over many months I have tried to read and fully understand the complex waffle and mindless drivel that is contained within the WMRSS document. I've got to be totally honest here, I've read some heavy going texts in my time but not one of them comes close to the use of complex acronyms, pure bile and needless Eurobabble that the WMRA have used in this planning document.
From what I have been able to glean from the planning document it would appear that if the recommendations put forward by the WMRA are adopted at National Government level then regardless of what we, the people, want the project will be railroaded through.
So although the document is just a plan or rather a 'proposal' at the moment it is important that everyone who has an opinion regarding house building projects and in the future of Tamworth try to read the WMRSS document. More importantly you should try to express your opinion by lobbying the WMRA and our local MP. After all this is going to affect Tamworth drastically over the next 19 years.
