21st June 2005

Congratulations to Ziggy, Tim and Sian who represented the South in the academy age group (91/92) inter districts at Millfield School last weekend. Ziggy and Tim both played well in what was a demanding competition as did Sian in the girls competition. These are just 3 in the long line of players that the club has produced at this level and looking at the current crop of youngsters we have a number of others that could easily play at this level.

22nd May 2005

All members of the Senior team please make a note in your dairy, we have a SCASA Cup game on the 1st June against Otter. This will be a tough game against newly promoted National League Division 1 opposition so we need a full strength squad. We would also appreciate as much support as possible to cheer us on.

11th May 2005

Just a quick message of welcome to our newest senior squad member, Andy Parkin. He is over from South Africa and is a useful addition to the squad. He has already shown his abilities in a few games for us this season and we wish him the best for the rest of it.

10th May 2005

Just a quick note to say goodbye to Scott Martin who is leaving us to move back to France, he will be greatly missed within the Under 15's and Junior teams. We all wish him every success in the future.

24th April 2005

Congratulations to Ben Alcorn, Nathan Hart and Ben Brazier who represented Sussex county in the SCASA Inter County championships at Crowborough on 17th April. The Sussex team played very well and were deserved runners up to an excellent Kent side who eventually won a hard fought final 6-3. Ben Alcorn played well in goal and also has the honor of captaining the team.

20th March 2005

The season is back under way again, the seniors have had there first friendly of the year and training is in full swing again but there are still a few of you guys missing the opportunity to get yourselves ready for what could be the busiest season for a while. The senior squad is taking part in the inaugural Sussex/Kent league which is going to played at Crowborough on 6 Saturdays during the season. The Under 16 team is going to be playing in the London league this year as well as 4 other tournaments held at St. Bede's. Even the girls might have a few more games this year, so everybody needs to be taking advantage of as much water time as possible to make sure we are ready and raring to go when the serious games start so Worthing keeps up its high standards within the County.

17th March 2005

Just a quick congratulations to Rebecca Anderson on her selection for the Girls '89 Southern Counties team that will be playing at Cranwell and Grantham this weekend in the Inter-district tournament.

3rd January 2005

In the boys team: Ben Alcorn and Ben Brazier.

All of them played well over the weekend and will benefit greatly from the experience of top class competition.

Extra congratulations should go to Emily as she continues to be involved with the National girls squad with is a fantastic achievement.

7th November 2004

Congratulations to the senior team for recording a resounding win in the Knockout Final against Hailsham  n Saturday 6th, having to overcome a 10 goal handicap, they ran out 25-2 winners on the night and 25-12 winners overall. For a full report click here.

The juniors also contested the Knockout final, also against Hailsham but unfortunately just didn't have enough to beat a stronger and older side, eventually going down 12-6. For a full report click here.

Sunday 14th November - 10:30 - 12:30

Sunday 21st November - 10:30 - 12:30

These sessions are intended to encourage the youngsters, both boys and girls,  to start playing polo s please do not be put off by your lack of experience. I hope many "beginners" will attend from other Sussex Clubs. Please speak to either Alastair or Richard for further details.

18th October 2004

Out of the 5 juniors that went along to the Regional Training Centre at Crystal Palace I am pleased to say that we have had 3 of them selected to attend the training sessions. They will be part of a squad of 13 players that will have 10 sessions with some of the best coaches in South and this can do nothing but benefit both them and the junior team as a whole. Congratulations to Ziggy, Scott and Tim - keep up the hard work guys!!

13th October 2004

The training and tournament dates for the County Under 16 team have been announced, all those that are in the age group should make sure they know these dates as anyone could be called on to play. The dates are as follows:

1st October 2004

Just a quick mention to Ziggy Tate, Robert Osbourne, Scott Martin, Tim Brazier and Sian Fogarty who are all going to the Regional Training Centre at Crystal Palace for age group 1991 and younger. This is a 10 week program that runs from the 2nd October that brings together the best players within that age group for some excellent coaching with the hopes of improving all players that attend.

25th September 2004

Emily Tilzey has once again been selected for the GB training squad the 1987 age group, the whole squad passes on there congratulations and we all hope it all goes well. keep up the hard work.

It is that time of year again for the clubs Annual General Meeting and as ever Ali has written and absolutely storming report for this years achievements throughout the squad. If you haven't been fortunate enough to get a copy of the minutes then follow this link to read the report, I think you will agree it is a belter (Ali's words not mine!!)

9th September 2004

It has been brought to my attention that Adam Churcher (junior squard) has decided to stop player polo, this will be a lose to the junior squad as he was one of the more experienced and better players in the team. We wish him well in everything he goes on to do.

After the first of our new beginners sessions on Thursday night we had a massive turn out of 23 youngsters and there were still some that had expressed interest in playing that didn't make it to this one. It looked as though everyone enjoyed themselves and everything looks good for the future of Worthing Water Polo except for maybe the coaching staff who all aged considerably during the hour session!!!!!

26th August 2004

After much deliberation about the way that polo within the club is progressing the coaching staff have decided to make some changes to the training structure to try and encourage some new players. This will involve changing who comes to which training sessions, all the players should have had letters informing them of how they are effected but if you haven't or have any questions come and ask either Ali or Richard on any training night.

This re-structuring will come into force from Thursday 9th September.

16th June 2004

I would like to congratulate Zoe Yeandle and Rebecca Anderson for being selected to represent the Southern District in the girls '89 age group. This is especially good as both players have only been playing for about a year. I'm sure all within the Polo squads and the entire Swimming Club wish them both the best for the tournament in Grantham this weekend.

10th June 2004

The senior SCASA knockout competition has been reduced to three teams due to the late withdrawal of Maccabi. The competition will now be played on a league basis with the 3 teams playing each other. This is going to be a tough competition for us so we need as many players to make themselves available. If you can or can't play please contact Ali as soon as possible.

28th May 2004

30th June - home against the Army

Apparently there is going to be beer and sarnies after both the away games, so get your lift sorted early so you can enjoy a cold beer after the game!!!

21st May 2004

The senior team has once again entered the SCASA knockout competition and due to there only being 3 other teams in the competition, Otter. Penguin & Maccabi. There will be 2 semi-finals and a final, the draw is as follows:

5th April 2004

SCASA Junior Boys Inter Counties

Just a brief report on Sundays inter counties championship for the 87 age group which was played at Crowborough. Three Worthing boys were part of the Sussex team;- Ben Alcorn, Ben Brazier and Dan Gibb, unfortunately Nathan Hart was unable to play due to work commitments. Sussex were runners-up, only losing to eventual winners Kent in a close match but recording excellent victories against both Surrey and Middlesex.

27th March 2004

ASA Youth Boys Inter Districts

Last weekend Nathan Hart represented the district boys team at the Manchester Aquatic Centre.

ASA Youth Girls Inter Districts

Last weekend three of our girls played in this years Inter Districts for the Southern Counties. Those involved were Louise Gibb, Emily Tilzey and Vicki Sayers. The South team again unfortunately lost all three matches but did however put up a much improved performance over last year. This was highlighted particularly by the performance against the North which was only a 10-7 defeat. The North field a first seven made up entirely of national team players and the game against the South was the only close contest they had all weekend. Last year the corresponding fixture resulted in a 17-1 defeat so the improvement was quite dramatic. All three of the Worthing girls played well in this demanding competition and I am sure will benefit from the experience long term.

27th February 2004

Emily Tilzey's GB training camp

The venue was the Gala baths at Walsall and it took place from Friday13th Feb to Monday16th Feb. The training started on Friday afternoon with the emphasis in the early sessions on swimming.......and lots of it. Emily plays in goal and I know she was dreading this but I think she coped fairly well. On the Saturday and Sunday the squad took part in three 2 hour sessions in the pool each day which is hard going for any age group. Emily really got going in the practice matches that were played when she would have been able to show her goalkeeping skills. After more training on the Monday morning, the squad finished early afternoon, and a very tired Emily returned home.

I know Emily has learnt a great deal from this experience, and it can only improve her goalkeeping. She has an excellent attitude to playing this demanding position, she hates letting in any goals and she encourages all the other members of the team constantly. I hope she will be selected for the next squad session which is planned for Millfield school in the summer. The overall plan for this group is building towards the European championships in the summer of 2005, let's hope that Emily stays involved all the way through to this event.

5th December 2003

Invitation to join England Squad

Following my report of the 85 age group inter-district championships, I am now delighted to report that after her excellent performances that weekend, Emily Tilzey has been invited to join the 87 age group England squad training in the new year.

This is particularly remarkable as Emily has been selected on her performances in goal after only seriously starting to play in this demanding position approximately a year ago.

She has, during this period, shown a dramatic improvement and I am sure that everyone at Worthing SC wishes her well for what I am sure will be some intensive training sessions.

1st December 2003

Inter District Championships

Four of our girls recently played for the 85 age group Southern district team at the inter district championships at Walsall. The four involved were Christine Pilcher, Louise Gibb, Vicki Sayers and Emily Tilzey.

The standard of this event is particularly high, featuring girls who are involved with both the GB junior and senior squads, and although the South failed to win a match, they played with a great deal of spirit throughout the weekend.

Special mention should be made of Emily who played all four matches in goal and produced a string of quality saves and as a result was a clear winner of the south's player of the tournament.
