Anyone that is interested in taking up polo or just want to try it to see what it is all about is more than welcome to come to one of the early sessions on a Tuesday or Thursday. Tuesdays would be preferable as we have 2 coaches working on the poolside so it makes it easier for us. There are no real restrictions to who can try it except for we do ask that you are competent swimmers as the game is played mainly in deep water and there is a lot of swimming required during the game.
There are also some swimming sessions that are available to water polo players that do not want to train with the gala squads, there are as follows:
Tuesdays & Thursdays - 9 - 9:30pm
Over the course of the season our teams enter the Sussex county league and Sussex knockout cup. The county league is made up of any other team within Sussex that wishes to compete, each team plays the other teams twice, home and away, over the course of the season. If the top 2 teams are level on points at the end of the year then they will play a 2 legged play off series with the aggregate result determining the over champions. The senior league is made of teams from Worthing, Hastings, Haywards Heath, Crawley, Brighton and Hailsham. The junior league consists of Worthing, Haywards Heath, Hailsham, Crawley and Brighton College. The latest addition to the county league program is the ladies competition, this was introduced in 2001 and has 3 team competing teams in it Worthing, Hastings and Haywards Heath.
The knockout cup is a straight knockout competition played with a handicap system that is worked out on the previous years league position. For every position you finish below the team you are playing you get a 2 goal advantage in the senior competition and 1 goal in the junior version, e.g. if Worthing won the junior league and had to play Crawley who finished 4th last year then Crawley would have a 4 goal advantage in the knockout competition, as yet there isn't a ladies version.
If you want to see what polo is all about then come down and watch one of our many home games during the course of the season, see the 'Fixtures' page for dates. Come along and join our team of supporters.
