At DCS, we understand the importance of protection, especially with the increase in crime over
recent years. This has led to a dramatic increase in the use of CCTV, in the domestic, commercial and civil sectors.
At DCS we offer a professional quality service, in the provision of CCTV systems, that are specially tailored
to our customer needs. We do not try and sell equipment to our customers that is not necessary. Instead,
we find the best solution to the problem to help reduce customer costs.
Here are some factors that have to be taken into consideration when considering a CCTV installation:
- What areas need covering, hence the number of cameras needed
- Does any area need active surveillance or static surveillance
- Is external lighting at night adequate for acceptable picture quality
- Do you require colour or monochrome cameras
- What time period of recorded coverage is required
Below, are typical arrangements for cctv installations. The first setup shows
a single camera that is connected to a time lapse VCR. No multiplexor is required because there
is only one camera connected to the VCR.

The second arrangement shows 2 cameras connected to a VCR via a switching unit.
This is a cheaper method of connecting multiple cameras. The drawback with this method
is that a recording or live viewing can only be made on one camera at a time. As the switching unit
switches to one of the cameras, that camera image is recorded. After a programmed time period,
the switching unit switches to another camera, and that camera image is viewed and recorded.

The best solution and more secure method of installation when installing multiple cameras, is the use
of a digital multiplexor. What this does, is sample images from all cameras, and displays them
all on 1 monitor to view. This allows images from all cameras to be recorded at once. This method
also allows live viewing on any camera whilst recording the camera images.
