DICKASON NOTES

 Written by Carol Nash

Spelling of Dickason/Dickerson.

Many of the church records would have been written by the incumbent of the church at the time- using their choice of spelling.

Signatures of William  from 1772-1790 and George Dickason from 1878 – 1790 shown in church records. All spelt Dickason..

GEORGE

Cannot prove which is which.

Baptism records show      Jorge –father of John 1684,    Robert 1687,

‘Gorge ‘1692. (Katherine, daughter of George & Elizabeth, died 1685, no baptism record.

Children’s mother – Eliza / Elizabeth.

Marriage records show – George & Elizabeth Hoogan 1699. (Elizabeth Dickason wife of George d/b 10.05.1695

George,  widower & Elizabeth Child    1712.

Is this the same man?    Made harder by wives both being some form of Elizabeth.

Children born before marriage ?

Burial records show

1   George  son of George  1701- presumably a child. Could be Gorge b 1692.

2  ‘Georg’ 08.11.1710 –therefore could not be married in 1712.

3    ….e   Dickerson , a child.

4   George Dickerson 1728. This could be George who m both Elizabeths.

Headstone in church yard reads –George Dickason died February 1784, aged 59yrs. Wife Ann.

He must have been born 1724.

Baptism records show

George -  04.07.1720    son of Robert & Mary,   he must be  3 from above.

&

George – 30.03.1727   son of Robert & Mary.

Could be him, only baptism dates not birth.

The Gregorian Calendar was introduced 1752 ish , this could have caused confusion on ages.

TWO MATTHEWS DEBATE. Which one married Hannah Chilvers.

1    Mathew christened 13.11.1774  - son of William & Elizabeth Murrell.

2    Matthew              15.01.1786  - son of George & Mary.

Baptism of Mathew & Hannah’s children all state Mathew as Carpenter.

Whites Gazetteer  1845 shows Hannah as Inn Keeper at Carpenters Arms, Ivy Todd.

Her death certificate,15.12.1849,  Necton ,states widow of Mathew Dickason, Carpenter.

Therefore this Mathew must have died before 1849.

Census reports 1841 show a Matthew, an agricultural laborer, living with his brother, David, in the parish of Stanfield.

This shows again in the 1851 census. So this Matthew still alive. Matthew 2 had a brother David, a Farmer.

WILLIAM

William & Elizabeth Murrell m at Holm Hale 15.07.1765 signed in the presence of  another William Dickason.    &  Susanna Dickerson (she later signed herself as Dickason)

No other William appears on church records,  so where is he from?

Next generation.

William & Rebecca Frost m 15.09.1828, on 1851 census in  Marylebone, born in Necton, occupation Carpenter.

William & Elizabeth Burrows m 04.12.1834. Church records state his occupation as Tailor.

William  Dickason, Tailor and Elizabeth & children are shown on 1851 census living in Hale Road.

Spelt Dickarson

Headstone in church yard reads

William Dickason died May 8th 1829 aged 87yrs.

This must be William -born  09.08.1741

Son of William & Martha Pilgrim

m Elizabeth Murrell. Father of Mathew, our GR GR Gr GR Grandfather.

GREENWOOD

Church records show a Greenwood c 20.03.1826 – son of Matthew, Carpenter & Anna (often used for

1881 census records for London show a Greenwood aged 57, which would fit above.

Graham in South Africa has a Greenwood, m 1854   as son of Matthew & Hannah. ???

Missing on the - ON LINE IGI

This cannot be our Hannah DICKASON as she appears on the census for 1841 & 51 as living with her parents at 19 Hatton St, ,Marylebone, and London. Her parents were married at local church – All Souls, Marylebone- cannot find any ON LINE records for All Souls.

Could be a misprint.

Could be another family, - A James & Mary DICKERSON had –Amelia born 07.12.1811,c 11.09.1814, William born 25.07.1816 c 13 .08.1816. & Thomas, born 04.11.1823, all christened at St Mary’s-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London.

Census records.

There is a William Dickason  born 1818, aged 63, a widower, on the 1881 census, whose birth place is St Marylbone, living in St Marylebone Workhouse. Whose family is he?
