Day 14 Saturday 17 July Thurso - John O'Groats - Thurso

Well, only about 20 miles to do, so I had a leisurely breakfast and then went into town to try and sort out my rail ticket to Inverness for tomorrow. (As I ended up a day late, I had to make a new reservation for the bike. Katie had sorted out easyJet for me.) I also needed to buy some new socks, having left my others drying on a fence in Lairg.

So image I left the tent and most of the clobber at the camp site, and set off on the final lap. The road was fairly easy going, and this was my first sight of the end,

image and I got here just after 1.00pm; the sight was overwhelming.

image The obligatory photo of course,

image and this is the extraordinary loooking building where you sign the book at the bar.

image It was raining on and off, so I spent most of the time in the cafe. These guys were off to the Orkneys. Then I started heading back to Thurso.

image I took the minor road back (the official NCN Route 1) which was more pleasant than the A836, and saw these Ragged Robin by the side of the road.

image Then I saw this storm, which I thought was going to miss me. Wrong! I got back to Thurso, drenched, but ready for a good evening meal.
