It had rained heavily overnight, and showed no signs of letting up. I heard on the radio that there were houses without electricity all over the place. So I set off in the rain, which continued all day, and I got no photos of the day's ride at all. I'd done 65 miles yesterday, and by the time I reached Wem I'd done another 66. Clearly the daily target of 80 was beginning to get beyond reach, which made a depressing end to a soggy ride.
But I pitched the tent, and dined on tinned chilli con carne with some rice. Then Katie told me the news that Geoff had lined up his brother and sister-in-law to offer me a bed for the next night. Charlie and Anne live on the northern edge of Preston, which would make about a 75 mile run for tomorrow: a welcome bit of home comfort to look forward to.
