3D Graphics

Welcome to my 3D graphics page. If you scroll down you will see jpg frame grabs from each animation I made. All animations have a description, as well as: when I made it, what packages I made them in, and for what course and module I made them for.

Most animations were made using Softimage 3.8 and one was made using 3Ds Max. In the future I intend to continue my animation skills using Softimage XSI, 3Ds Max and possibly Maya.

VIRUS - Final Year Project - BA Creative Visualisation Degree - March 2001

This animation was my main project for the degree. It was made in softimage 3.8 and was meant to be an FMV sequence for an imaginary game called 'Virus'. The storyline was about a doctor working on a new found deadly virus in a lab, when he accidentally, without realising rips his suit. On the way home that night on a tube train he then starts to feel very ill and vomits. Passengers on the train nearby catch his virus, and they too become ill, then die and turn into zombies.

The aim of the game would be for you (a highly trained solider) to clean up the streets of NYC in this all action first person perspective shoot 'em up. NB: All characters used were modified shareware models.

Lego Animation - Advanced Animation - BA Creative Visualisation - Final Year Module - January 2001-

As with all 3D animations I made at University I again used Softimage 3.8. For this assignment I was given a selection of poems by Ivor Cutler to put across in any style of animation of my choosing. I Picked his poem called 'A Simple Machine' and made it in the style of lego in 3D. The animation is about a metal worker who has an idea to make a machine that will make life easier for him by doing his chores, unfortunately for him the robot malfunctions by setting itself to terminate it's maker.

Game Level Fly through - Creative 3D Modelling - MA Creative Multimedia - January 2002 -

This animation was my first attempt at using 3D Studio Max, as in the past I had always used Softimage. For the assignment I had to make an interior room/building scene and fly a camera through it. For my topic I chose to do a fly through of a game level you would find in a death match game such as: Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 Arena. My reason for doing this was: In game design you are limited with the amount of polygons you can use, and all visual stimulation generally comes from good use of textures. Now as I didn't have to be polygon count conscious (as my assignment was to make an avi movie, I didn't have to render the scene in real time like you do in games) I could be more extravagant in the amount of polygons used, and I could also use lights more dramatically, as again the computer does not need to calculate shadows etc in real time.

Computer Animation Technology 2 - BA Creative Visualisation - 2ND Year - April 2000 -

As mentioned in the 2D section this animation was completed in April 2000 as part of my degree (using Softimage 3.8). The animation is about the discovery of aliens from the UFO crash in Roswell 1947 and is 1 minute 30 seconds long including credits.

Character Animation - BA Creative Visualisation - 2ND Year - May 2000 -

The ant animation was my ICA for character animation, which was finished in May 2000. Like the others it was made using Softimage. Working in pairs we had to have two characters interact with each other. The other character is an Aardvark which the Ant conflicts with.

Computer Animation Technology 1 - BA Creative Visualisation - 2ND Year - January 2000 -

These set of six images are taken from an animation called 'Keep It Wheel', which I finished in Jan 2000 in the 3rd semester. This animation is around 30 seconds long and was made in Softimage.
