The History of Rich...

INTRODUCTION

I started life as a baby (nothing unusual there) in Truro which is in Cornwall. Both my parents where in the RAF (Royal Air Force) and as a result much of my upbringing has been in a 'forces' environment. I went to a multitude of primary schools and lived in many places including Cyprus and the Outer-Hebrides (off the NW coast of Scotland). By the time I was old enough to go to secondary school my parents had left the forces and got proper jobs! My Father now trains high-level sales whilst running his airfield/stables (difficult to tell which is his full-time job!) with his wife Sally. My Mother is a retired Nurse who teaches in her spare time, she lives in Buckingham with her partner Rob. My brother Martyn lives in Brighton and works within the web-dev sector. I have two stepbrothers, Nick and Simon - both of them change what they are doing so often I cannot keep up!

EDUCATION

The first school I remember is in Petersfield...can't remember the name though. Next up was Aston Clinton followed by Eddlesborough County Combined. After that I started going to Aylesbury Grammar School where I spent all my Secondary school education, learnt guitar and fell in love with Golf GTI's. I still hang out with a load of guys from Aylesbury! Finally I went off to Uni at The University of Kent at Canterbury. I would recommend UKC to anyone looking for a collegiate, campus based Uni life. I still wear the UKC clothes :) Whilst at University I fulfilled two of my life ambitions - I bought a GTI and also my dream guitar, a Jackson Kelly Pro in black! I left Uni with an Upper-Second Electronic Systems Engineering Honours Degree (B.Eng.). Since then I have become MCSE and MCDBA and have moved to a full member of the IEE.

CAREER

At the end of my 6th Form I signed up with the Army and gained a sponsorship with the Royal Signals through University. Although I spent many a summer with them and joined the TA to keep my skills up, I eventually bought my way out to pursue a career in the IT sector. As a result I went to work for Unisys as a Technical Consultant in their publishing division. The job took me all over Europe (inc. a year's stay in Dublin!). I became the UK's lead technical specialist in my group and spent much time working from home. I have since left Unisys to work for Tera, a small digital publishing company in Bury St. Edmunds where I do much of the same sort of work but on a regional rather than national scale. The work is varied and I spend time between home, the office and various sites - so it keeps me interested.

AND LIFE...

Currently I am living in Knebworth, having bought a house a few years back (when they were still affordable!). I live there with my two cats and gorgeous wife. Despite my temporary defection to a different make of car I went back to a Golf GTI (I knew the Cupra wouldn't last long) which I spent far too much on in my quest to make it 'as-new'. That however, has gone to make way for a company car. I sold Kelly to buy an Ibanez S520 in purple fleck, although my wife bought me a USA Jackson Kelly KE2 for a wedding gift!. I also attained my PPL(H) in 2003 which allows me to fly helicopters for fun. Life is going well...
