Upgrades

Are You Thinking About an Upgrade?

From a new DVD-RW drive to a bigger hard drive or more memory, I can upgrade your old workhorse into a new high-speed machine.

The computer industry moves so fast that a machine bought only a couple of years ago can become uneconomic to upgrade, the architecture of hardware changes, and older motherboards will not accept the new fast CPU and memory modules, so it is often then better to spend a little more and invest in a new base unit.

Any machine that will accept todays components is generally fairly easy to upgrade.

The simplest and best way to improve a computers performance is to add more working memory (RAM). However if your computer is running very slowly, it might not be the hardware at all, see: Reinstallation.

Most people think of an upgrade when that program that they just bought won't run on their computer, get to know the specification of your computer and always check the minimum requirements (usually printed on the side of the box) before you buy the software, you can then check beforehand if your computer can be upgraded and what it will cost.

Major upgrades, like a new motherboard, can require a complete reformat and reload of your hard drive. Windows integrates very closely with the motherboard. Replacing the motherboard without cleaning and completely reloading the operating system can leave you with a very unstable computer.
