Paul Auster
One of my favourite writers, along with Kazuo
Ishiguro (who doesn't have a website). Wonderful, quirky
evocations of American life, often centred on his beloved New York.
His novels are perhaps the only reason I'd have to go there.

Alan Bissett Sickeningly talented and handsome young
Scottish writer. One to watch for his wit and sense of the
absurd, he's going to exceptionally cool, popular and wealthy some day.

Suhayl
Saadi
Great
writer, friend, critic, much needed voice of sanity and
purveyor of cosmic delights beyond your wildest dreams: no,
he isn't a drug dealer - just buy his books. A true
Renaissance man.

Janice
Galloway
One of the
most multitalented, erudite, scarily brilliant writers in
English today. No bookshelf should be without "The Trick is
to Keep Breathing" at the very least.

Screenplay.com
Excellent
screenwriters' resource site: articles, books, software,
competitions, etc. I use their Movie Magic Screenwriter
software, and it's brill! Downloadable demos
available.

Edwin
Morgan
Morgan is a
giant. Witty, thought-provoking, supremely humane, he is, to
my mind, the best poet writing in English alive today. And
one of the nicest people too. Most of the writers I know
idolise him - quite rightly.

Kathryn
Heyman
Wonderful,
perceptive Australian writer and a delightful person too.
Formerly Writer-in-Residence in Renfrewshire, Kathryn has
always been incredibly supportive of me. Now living in Oz
with her lovely partner Richard and their children, she is a
frequent visitor here, working often with Arvon. Read her
books, you'll be amazed!

The
Arvon Foundation
Excellent
organisation promoting writers and writing through courses
with world-class writers, including A.L.Kennedy, Edmund
White, Arnold Wesker and even the great Tom Robinson on
songwriting! I have incredibly fond but hazy memories of a
week spent with Alison Kennedy and Bill Herbert at Moniack
Mhor: sidesplittingly helpful stuff that helped me, Anne
Donovan and several others onto the publishing
circuit.

Arista
Development
Essential
stuff for screenwriters wishing to develop a project. I've
attended one of their week-long courses in Denmark to
develop "The Island" feature film script: their material is
innovative, challenging and helpful. Highly
recommended.
