BROADVIEW COTTAGES

Broadview looks out over the Glaven Valley at Wiveton on the North Norfolk coast. Once renown for the building of tall ships, Wiveton saw its fortune decline in the 1600's after banks constructed at the estuaries mouth started the silting process. Wiveton's former glories sleep in this quiet backwater, having become a more tranquil place than neighbouring Blakeney and Cley making it an ideal base for exploring. Broadview offers space and comfort in a peaceful setting, being situated outside the main village down a farm track. Just over the hill beyond the strawberry fields, there is the saltmarshes and sea. At quiet times you can hear the waves breaking on the beach. Just as the tide cannot ignore the moon, so the Norfolk skies demand your attention; they are so big and filled with a wonderful clear light.

I take this opportunity to introduce myself, I am Vaughn Balding. My family has lived in the Blakeney area for at least 160 years. My wife, Cristina, and I have built the accommodation at Broadview over the past ten years. Every flint was hand picked by us from the local quarry, the buildings being finished in a traditional style that blends character with comfort. We are happy to share our local knowledge with visitors (like the 2000 year old Iceni fort that doesn't feature on to many tourist guide's) and if they have a particular field of interest which they would like researching before their arrival then they only need ask.

THIS PART OF THE NORTH NORFOLK COAST OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.

Attractions of special interest are:-

  • Birdwatching - There is birdwatching at the Cley Reserve which is world famous as a mecca for birders.
  • Sailing - For those who enjoy to sail, sailing can be found at Blakeney.
  • Walking - There are timeless woodland walks as well as coastal walks.
  • Cycling - This quiet area is ideal for cycling and as already mentioned we can offer secure bike storage.
  • Historic Buildings - Nearby you can visit Blickling, Sandringham, Holkham and Norwich Castle. There are many Churches to visit and also a 2000 year old Iceni centre. I have an interest in the esoteric and spiritual side of our beings and would like to encourage kindred spirits.
  • Seals - Grey & Commons seals reside on Blakeney Point most of the year. Pupping season is around October to November. There are several firms who runs daily boat trips to see the seals weather permitting.
  • Astronomy - The skies are so clear and vast here, perfect for astronomers.
