Sainte-Mere-Eglise

The Airborne Museum is a fabulous memorial to the American 82nd. and 101st. Airborne. Set in beautiful gardens, it consists mainly of two buildings in the design of parachute canopies. Inside the buildings the displays are on two floors.

The Waco Glider is the centre point of the first museum building, the picture on the left shows the Waco Glider (note the roof of the building) a parachute canopy..
The visitor can walk into the glider and see the conditions the troops had to endure on the flight into battle. (As seen in the picture right.) There is also a vast display of memorabilia and historical information relating to the American Airborne
.

Inside the Second building is the home of the Douglas D.C.3 Dakota. A film presentation is also shown. Many uniforms are on display. The sound of the Glenn Miller Orchestra is never far away…..

The town of Sainte-Mere-Eglise has got to be visited by the D-Day historian tourist. It is a living memorial to the American Airborne. Many of the Veterans are still regular visitors and their photographs can be seen in the local hotels and café's.
