My old 480
1993 L Reg 480 2.0ES (2 Litre fuel Injection
with Cat)
I purchsed this car in February 2000 and after sorting out the usual electrical
gremlins due to bad contacts and replacing one pop-up motor it has proved very
reliable.
I had to have some minor rust bubbles above the rear lights sorted out and
and took the opportunity to replace both front & rear lamps (due to the
usual fading & cracks developing in the plastic) whilst this was being done
by the bodyshop. I have also fitted a new tailgate/hatch seal and with new
sealant around the lights the biggest 480 bugbear (water in the boot) has been
solved
To make life easier I fitted extra switches for the electric windows in the door trims and a remote control system for the central locking/alarm.
Finally liking the side marker lamps on the Volvo S40 i fitted bulbs to the front & rear side marker lamps.
It has now done 164,000 miles and failed its MOT on emissions & rusty brake pipes. Unfortunately as my drive is too narrow for a 'modern' car (the Austin fits just fine) I can't get it into my garage, so I decided (reluctantly) to sell it for spares/repair. Fortunately a fellow 480 club member, 'C6REW' has bought it and intends to repair it and return it to the road.
My current transport is THIS
a 1993 L reg 1.4 diesel metro. Its economical but it ain't a 480!

No its not a turbo - the rear hatch has been replaced at some time.....
The pictures below detail where central locking
components are and how to wire up the microscan scl3000 remote adapter. You will
need an extra motor ( 2 wire type ) for the drivers door.
Both units are available from Microscan
or Maplin (part no. YD79L or YD77X for
complete kit).
Also shown is a diagram of the Sunroof, the screws you have to undo to remove it
etc. The plastic pins that snap are Volvo part no. 3345816. Details of all
mods are HERE (pdf doc)
