Nighthawk

Challenge

2003

Winners!

The Nighthawk Challenge happens to be the brain child of Huddersfield North District Scouts.

The Challenge?

As the name suggests, the Nighthawk Challenge takes place during the night.  From 11.30pm - 12 noon Scouts must hike between 4 timed checkpoints.  Failure to reach a checkpoint during a certain time period results in disqualification.  Added to this, Scouts must employ a covert navigation style to avoid being captured by the "Nighthawk Hunters!"  The team to win, is the team to be caught the least.

To add to the challenge:

A direct route through all the checkpoints happens to be 'just' 17 miles

Hunters have the aid of modern radio communication technology, motor vehicles and years of training.

Scouts must travel by foot and adhere to strict rules and regulation, as outlined in the statement of entry.

Below is an insight into this bizarre event:

Yup, these Scouts happen to be signing their lives away!

Ready and waiting

Calm and collected

Don't mess with me: I'll have you know I'm a black belt in origami.

Peter demonstrates a method of hiding from the Nighthawk Hunters.  Hmmm.

How far...

... a little too far
