The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team is to be found located in Marsden, about 6 miles to the west of Huddersfield on the edge of the southern pennine moors.

The operating area of the Team can be summarised as the south half of West Yorkshire - as shown on the map to the left. However, because of the way Mountain Rescue works, we can, and often are called upon to assist other Team outside of this area.

Quite often we find that many local people are surprised that there is a Mountain Rescue Team located in the Huddersfield area, then they think of the open moorland to the west and south of the Holme Valley area and realise there is a need for us.

However, those that know the area will know that even though the bulk of our area is classed as urban, there are many areas of open countryside within this.

This reflects most of the call-outs and incidents we are asked to respond to. Often we are called upon to find the missing person, young or old, as well as the walker or climber who may have encountered difficulties.
