WORM WHEEL

This was a problematic part on our boat it's the worm wheel for lifting the enfield leg we have broken two of these at £100 plus, a time. When the last one broke we had my brother make a new one out of steel. Any good blacksmith or metal workshop could probably make you one. This part now works a treat on our cleopatra and has not given us any more trouble.
worm2
The only parts of the original we used were the worm, the steel shaft that holds the worm in place, and the cup at the top.
We made the semi circular part out of steel and drilled the seven bolt holes taking the patern from the original. The collar parts were made from the appropriate sized steel bar, drilled out and rebushed. These were then welded to the semi circular part.
The worm guard was again made from steel and welded to the collars, it needs this guard for strength.

The cup at the top is held in place by a pin, there is also a pin lower down the worm that needs removing to get the worm out, replace these pins when the worm is reassembled.
