The Wishing Path

Come and walk on the wishing path
Up the zig-zag route to the mountain top
Where an old tree spreads its seven branches
And the moon is full.

I walked up the path with my old black pig
A faithful companion since the day I was born.
But he splashed about in the mirror still lake
So I sent him home.

I galloped up the path on my flying horse
I wanted to be first and win the race.
But he rolled in the mud and refused to run
So I sent him home.

I said goodbye to the hens in the yard
The fearful snake slid back to his hole
A big bird swooped and blocked out the sun
So I sent him home

Come and walk on the wishing path
To a pure land by a joyful stream.
It's a million miles but we'll reach the end
With a single stride.

Three jewels are the price of your bed and board
At the inn where we pause on the wishing path.
You'll be happy there when we arrive,

It's called The World at Peace.

Taking Refuge

Namo Buddhaya
Namo Dharmaya
Namo Sanghaya

I take refuge in the three jewels

Precious Jewels

I was born in a ruby land
Where a Master taught and wisdom began.
The sacred was secret; mysterious things
Like fabulous treasures belonging to kings.
But all that we knew was the heat and the crowd,
Dusty beggars, children crying out loud,
Flowers from the forest, spice heavy breath,
The Wheel always turning through life and through death.

Way up high in the mountains a road lay ahead
With the sun in the West setting ruby red.

How long have I lived in this emerald isle
Where
wisdom of ancient ones came for a while.
Where magic is hidden, but power lies still
In the standing stone or the sacred hill.
But all that we know is the grab and the chase,
Terror that kills with a smile on its face.
Wheatfields and cattle and poisoned air,
Fast food, fast fortunes and forests laid bare.
Here, on midsummer morning, on soft hills I’ve seen
The dawn from the East shining emerald green.

My house looks over the sapphire sea
Where life on this planet first started to be.
Drowned deep in the oceans lie cities immersed
Their knowledge long scattered, their peoples
dispersed.

But all that we know is the torrential force
Of rivers and lakes flowing back to their source.
Or empty dry deserts of famine and war
Parched fields, hungry eyes begging us to give more.

From my rocky island, in safety I view
That the waters surround me with sapphire blue.

I am a diamond of priceless worth
Formed by a million years here on Earth.
Hard enough to cut through ignorance and desire
Undestroyed by earthquake, flood or fire.
But all that I know is the rock and the stone
Un-mined, un-refined, my potential unknown.
I lie in the dirt and my chances pass by
To adorn a king's crown, be a star in the sky.
I come from a place of the purest light -
WHO AM I NOT TO SHINE like a diamond bright.

Divine Action

My lamplit room, curtained, double glazed
Where I lie in cosy TV fantasy
Living other people's lives.
Somewhere out there
A full white moon draws the tide
High up on the shingle beach,
Exactly according to invisible magnetism.
When I wake, throw wide the door and
Walk out on the wild windy crest
Storm clouds tear apart
And bright moonlight fills my heart

It's a beautiful day out there
In the first clear light of dawn
The owl floats to his hidden roost,
The thrush begins to sing,
Exactly according to the natural flow of morning.
But I am sleeping late in my darkened room
Dreaming that my lover walks in the garden.
When I wake and draw back the curtains
Golden light fills my heart.

What is the sound that stirs me?
Whose is the whisper that wakes me?
It is the ancient murmur of the Universe
Running light fingers
Over the strings of centuries.
In the sound of a million echoes
I perceive the divine presence.

Sunrise

Out of the great space of night
A dawn breeze runs through the grasses
The fiery sun arises
Touching wet dew on open flowers
And the Earth is reborn
Generating the Five Lotuses

Pam le pema jangku

Pam le pema nongpo

Lotus

A man is running.
Is he fleeing from
His darkest torment?
Or racing joyfully
Towards his vision?
He does not know.
He is just running.

So the lotus grows.
Forgetful of muddy root
Innocent of sun dappled bloom.
Upward through dim waters.

Transformation into the Seed Syllables

Seeds

Flower blooming
In a summer garden
Delights the eye
Scents the air
Gives busy insects
Work to do.

Seed bud swelling
Deep within
Matures and grows
Fattens and expands
As pretty petals fade
And fall away

Flower dying in total fulfilment
Its job done
Its fragile beauty
Just a passing pleasure
For a sunny day

Seed bud bearing
In a secret place
The true reason
For the flower's blooming.
A thousand lovely blooms
For another summer.

The Five Supreme Healers
Dhyani Buddhas

Om Ah Amoghasiddhi Hum
Om Ah Ratnasambhava Hum
Om Ah Akshobya Hum
Om Ah Amitabha Hum
Om Ah Vairochana Hum
Five Supreme

Fat round raindrops
Warm green wetness
Summer showers
In a wisdom rain
Bestowing Blessings

Fearlessly riding
Through wet woodlands
A golden knight
Upon a golden horse
Bestowing Blessings

Sword in hand
Flash of blue steel.
Though the earth shakes
He stands firm
Bestowing Blessings

Run and scatter
Spread the news
The master sits silent
In the deep forest
Bestowing Blessings

And wisdom rolls by.
A harvest wagon
Loaded so high
Crumbs fall to us
Bestowing blessings

Secret Empowerment

Om Mani Peme Hum
Who Am I?

Am I the father with a long white beard
Who lives above the racing clouds
Sending rain
To make the grass grow
Each drop
Falling into Bliss

Am I the Mother with a fruitful womb
Who lives within the summer lands
Warming the earth
To make the grass grow
Each flame
Flickering into Emptiness

Am I the child of that great union
Who runs in play across the grassy land
Down into the gloomy caves
Up upon the mighty mountains
Singing the Song
That creates the Universe

By the Power of the Truth
Peace with Everything
Everything with Peace

Om Bishwa Shanti Hum
Peace is the Middle Road

Long lifeless plains
Featureless and flat
Littered with bones
Where starving nations
Sat down and died.
Not peaceful
Just empty

Fighting machines
Butted head to head
Screaming up mud
With adrenaline pumping
Stagnation.
Not peaceful
This is war.

Secret places
Where the misfits meet
Hiding their terror
In dark corners
Frozen in obsession
Silent with fear.
Not peaceful
Just out of sight.

Hailstones
Banging on a tin roof
Thunder crashing overhead
Then silence
While the sky draws breath.
Not peaceful
Just a lull.

Peace is the Middle Road
Fast walking
Across dry grassy hilltops
Where bramble bushes
Offer the juiciest fruit,
The fox feeds a rabbit
To her hungry cubs,
The sun burns and
The wind whips our faces.
Out ears are deafened
By the clamour of birdsong.
Fierce - Alive - Infinite.

Peace is the Middle Road
Where we walk together
In the same direction.

Special Auspicious Blessing of the Three Jewels

At dawn and dusk
At night and midday
May the Three Jewels
Grant us their blessings.
May they help us to achieve
All realisations
And sprinkle the paths of our lives
With various signs of auspiciousness.
Meditation

Speak to me of a time
When Light does not shine
And you will be silent.

Speak to me of a time
When all men are at war
And you will hear the sound of peace.

Listen to the roaring noise
In its centre is stillness.
