Filmed interview
with Sol Sneltvedt and Mick O'Shea about their collaboration on
the Mindscape project 7.30 pm followed by work in progress by
Tom Smith and Volko Straub at the Sussex Arts Club, Brighton.
Mindscape
is an audio-visual installation created through a collaboration
between Norwegian artist Sol
Sneltvedt and neuroscientist
Michael O'Shea, University of Sussex.
The private view for Mindscape was at the Unitarian
Church, New Road, Brighton on Wednesday 31 March, 5.30pm
- 7.30pm. The Blip event took place from 7.30pm - 11pm and
gave people an opportunity to discuss the project with Sol
and Mick. The interview was filmed by Jon
Bird and DVD copies are available on request (email:
info@blip.me.uk).
There
were two works in progress: Tom
Smith projected a simulation environment for artificially
evolving robots controlled by gas networks inspired by Mick
O'Shea's research; Volko
Straub projected a film of snail neurons growing interconnections
in culture.
Brighton
DJs Spinny and Suzanna provided a suitably eclectic sound
track for the evening. Spinny is (John Peel favourite) singer-song
writer Lianne Hall. Suzanna is drummer in Brighton-based
bands pico, Drei and Tundra.
