GM Foods

The advances being made by man in
technological terms over the past Fifty or so years,
has been astonishing to say the least
and the learning capabilities of man seems to be
increasing exponentially.
There are a great many people around the
world (including me) who are grateful for the
dedication of doctors and scientists.
However,
these same technological feats
are causing some grave concerns to the
general public and governments alike.
The topical concern about GM foods
has an awful lot of people in a panic,
while others are shrugging their shoulders and
tut-tut ting at all the fuss.
Being concerned about this subject,
I took steps to research and investigate
the pro's and con's of Genetic Engineering
and I have to say that it isn't easy to get straight answers on this subject.
I have found that there is an awful lot of conjecture,
scare mongering and avoidance by both the for and against camps.
So, I am going to stick with my own findings and conclusions.

While it is a fact that the world's population is ever increasing
and needs to be fed, and that GM crops are
resistant to certain diseases and certain insect decimation,
it is also a fact that the people who gain most from these needs,
are certain members of the business community,
who stand to make vast profits from these crops.
There is also the question of safety.
None of the "experts" can confirm absolutely
that genetic modification is one hundred per cent safe
now or in the future, they simply don't know.
They don't know if 20 years down the line,
side effects will appear,
they don't know how future unborn children will be affected,
they don't know that if in some future time all worldwide crops would be affected and inedible to humans.
They just don't know.

My stand is this,

LEAVE OUR FOOD ALONE!

The perils that lay ahead for our future generations
are bad enough as it is, with Global warming,
Toxic waste and a planet laid to waste by the past generations.

Enough Is Enough.
