THE ENVIRONMENT

Over the past few years,
there have been constant reports
regarding the sorry state of our
Planet and mostly it has seemed
that these reports have fallen on deaf ears.
How refreshing to find that not all nations are
deaf to the plight of our World,
that at least one country is willing
to try to solve a seemingly insurmountable problem.
I take great pride in the fact that
my home country, Scotland is showing the way forward.
Thanks to an extensive Tree Planting programme,
Scotland's trees are now thriving in greater numbers
than in the 14th Century.
Not so very long ago,
there was grave concern in this country
that tree felling was decimating the Scottish countryside.
Sheer dogged determination and remarkable foresight
are now winning a once thought of impossible battle.
I congratulate all of those involved in the
Tree Planting programme
and I encourage all who read this,
wherever you are in the world,
to lobby your Ministers or Senators or
the equivalent government
representative to do the same in your Country.
Scotland has shown that it can be done,
and if every Country on this Earth were to follow suit,
we would go a long way to redeeming ourselves,
by giving back some of what we have pillaged.
