travel and fiction writer, lecturer and broadcaster
Current projects
From June to September 2002 John walked, rode, and drove a donkey along
the Inca-built Camino
Real, the Royal Road, through the centre of Peru.
The journey is the subject
of his next book, A Walk to the Sun, a journey along the Inca Cloud Road.
Here John had just
left the remote hamlet of Ayash (it means City of the Dead)
and is persuading Dapple the donkey up the hill to the evening's
campsite, at nearly 14,000 feet.
John is also working on a novel about the the conquest of Peru,
completing a second collection of short stories, and finishing
a year as Writer in Residence at Trinity College Carmarthen, Wales,
with a project called The Wild Wood.
