Our Beliefs

We believe in the great historic doctrines of the 1689 Baptist Confession, in particular, the following ten fundamental truths

(as set forth in our Constitution)

THE BIBLE - THE WORD OF GOD

The Bible - that is the 66 Books of the Old and New Testaments - to be the Word of God. These Scriptures as originally given are inspired of God and as such are infallible, inerrant and divinely preserved. The Scriptures constitute the revelation of God written down in its all its fullness. There are no new revelations today or supposed revelations of the Spirit as the agents of divine revelation. Prophets and apostles with authenticating gifts have long since ceased. We acknowledge our dependence upon the Holy Spirit for a true understanding of God's word. These Scriptures are to us the all sufficient and ultimate Authority in all matters of faith and conduct

THE FATHER, THE SON, THE HOLY SPIRIT - ONE GOD

The Trinity, Unity and Eternity of the Godhead as revealed in the Scriptures -the Father being God, the Lord Jesus Christ the Son being God, the Holy Spirit being God, these being equal in power and glory, one Lord God Almighty - Sovereign in Creation, Providence and Redemption

JESUS CHRIST - TRUE GOD - TRUE MAN

The essential, absolute and eternal deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. His conception by the Holy Spirit; His birth of the Virgin Mary; His real but sinless humanity; the authority of His teaching and the infallibility of all His utterances; His voluntary humiliation in life as a Man of Sorrows, culminating in His substitutionary and atoning death whereby He shed His precious blood as the Sacrifice for sin; His bodily resurrection on the third day; His ascension into heaven as the only and eternal mediator between God and man, His present High Priestly intercession for His people at the right hand of the Father; and His personal return in glory and power

THE HOLY SPIRIT - THE GIVER OF LIFE

The personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, through whom the soul is born again to saving repentance and faith, and by whom believers are sanctified through the Truth; our dependence upon His work for ministry and worship

FALLEN MAN - A SINNER

The universal and total depravity of man in the sight of God as a consequences of the fall; His exposure to everlasting punishment; His inability to will any spiritual good accompanying salvation and therefore the necessity for regeneration

JUSTIFICATION - BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Justification is an act of God's free grace whereby He pardons our sins and counts us righteous. This is not based on anything we have done, but only on the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and received by faith alone. Once justified, we are adopted into the family of God, being complete in Christ

HOLINESS AND WITNESS - EVIDENCE OF CONVERSION

A holy walk and life by professed believers as evidence of their conversion to God. It is the duty of every Christian and every church of Christ to seek to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. This is to be carried out by personal effort and by all other methods sanctioned by the Word of God

OUR LORD'S ORDINANCES - BAPTISM AND HIS TABLE

The ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper as instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is the total immersion in water in the triune name, of those who have professed repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper is the breaking of bread and drinking of wine by those who profess faith in him and are walking in obedience to his word. This is done in the remembrance of the sacrificial work of Christ. It is in no sense a sacrifice for sin, nor is it the continuation of Christ's sacrifice on Calvary. it involves no change in the substances of bread and wine

THE FUTURE - HEAVEN OR HELL

The resurrection of the body; the judgement of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ with with the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the wicked

ONE CHURCH - CALLED TO BE PURE

The spiritual unity of all who truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and their duty to maintain in both themselves and the church, a standard of doctrine that is in conformity with the teaching of God's Holy Word
