A concrete base was made at the edge of the pond onto which a butyl liner was placed over a mound of sharp sand.
A few tons of Cumbrian slate was bought from a local merchant and this was used to build the waterfall, edge the pond and provide some landscaping. Some of these pieces were incredibly heavy to lift on my own and position. I got there in the end though!
Mortar was added to seal the joints in the slate and the whole structure was given several coats of G4 to seal the slate and concrete.
The pond edging was laid on a mortar bed and the gap between pond and mortared. When dry the concrete was smeared with black Den Braven mastic to seal the concrete and seal the rocks against the fibreglass. The underside of the rocks were painted with black G4
Crushed slate was added to the area next to the pond
The area around the pond is planted up and was then covered with bark to retain moisture.
The pond was filled over a four day period using a pair of dechlorinators fitted with a flow meter. The prefilter connects to a large charcoal filter and then onto solid block filters of progressively fine grade. The pond contain 6965 UK gallons
To ensure that impurities are removed the water must be passed through slowly.
