110mm pipe was used for the two bottom drains. 1" pipe carries the air to the diffuser drains whilst 50mm pipe carries the water returns. All pipe was pressure spec as it was to be, for the most part, buried in the ground for long runs. With several runs of pipe to and from the filter area the amount of pipe and number of joints was significant.
The first batch of fittings arrive. Little did I realise that the above would ultimately only represent around 60% of the total required! Swept bends have been used exclusively to minimise friction and double union ball valves are used to control all water flow and allow easy removal of equipment.
The TPRs have been installed in the walls and at this point the pipework meets before running in a straight line to the filter area. Again, swept bends have been used throughout. After the pipes had been installed they were wrapped in foil backed 'bubble wrap' to retain heat as much as possible. The membrane backing the wall blocks can also be seen here.
The second lot of fittings are put in a handy spot.
