The pond is to be sited along the boundary fence. To get a feel for the general size and shape of the pond two hoses have been laid out on the ground. The design is a raised pond surrounded by a planted area.
The black hose represents the outer wall of the raised construction which is a raised area that will be filled with soil and planted. The yellow hose shows the approximate perimiter of the pond itself although this changed many times and is different to the finished shape.
After much experimentation with size and shape the excavation begins. The outer channel that has been dug will eventually be the foundation for the wall used to retain the planted area. The shape of the pond can now clearly be seen.
The pond will have two diffuser bottom drains. Here pegs and string have been placed to show the position of each drain run. The filter area that will serve the pond will be situated around 50ft away at the rear of the garden.
