The pond has been running now for around 2 months and has performed really well. An initial bout of Chilodinella (probably caused by the varying water quality at first) was quickly sorted with Potassium Permanganate.
Here, the diffuser drain has just been switched on and a picture taken before the bubbles reach the surface and disturb the view. The pond ha retained this clarity thoughout. At any time clarity looks like declining a 24hr burst with the sand filter clears it. The sand filter has been used for 4 x 24hr periods in the two months since commissioning the pond.
The diffuser drains provide superb air to the pond - thouroughly recommended
This picture is towards the pond with my back against the filter house wall. Decking has been added to cover the unused half of the pond and I have just laid some grass.
The pond in general shot. I am unhappy with the roofing on the filter house as it is too stark. The plan was to build a screen however I now intend to change this for bronze polycarbonate before Winter.
A (not very good) shot of the planting that has grown at an incredible rate since planting.
Some of the 'mutts' that inhabit my pond. I will gradually buy better fish however I cannot bring myself to discard the fish that have helped fuel my enthusiasm for the hobby and have survived my often poor fishkeeping skills. Whatever stock I buy from now, these fish will see out whatever life they have left in this pond with me.
