During the Summer we have an outdoor rage of up to 100 yards. This is actually located in one of the moats of Fort Purbrook. The surrounding walls keep the range sheltered from the wind and are very good at stopping any arrows that miss!
We also have 3 indoor rages of 10 yards which are used throughout the year, and this is where the beginner courses are held. These rooms are equipped with safety nets behind the targets, and are well lit and heated in the Winter.
2005 saw us host our first club competition, and this took place on the parade ground at Fort Purbrook.
Having 3 qualified coaches, we run regular beginners courses and have a wide range of equipment available to lend out to new members. New members are taught to use recurve bows or flat bows during the beginners course. We advise new members NOT to purchase their own equipment at least until they have finished the beginners course. After this they are welcome to continue using the club equipment, the only rule being that the newest members always get first choice.
Once you have completed the beginners course there is a wide range of archery styles that you can move on to. Our club members use a wide range of equipment, ranging from the modern Olympic style recurve bows and compound bows, to the traditional English longbow and recurved bows, although the most popular choices at our club are the modern recurve or the traditional longbow. One of the only bow styles we do not support is the crossbow. Whichever style you decide on, you can be sure that there is someone at the club that can offer you advice on it.
